Repentance

We believe repentance, which is the confessing and forsaking of one’s sins, is essential in the Born Again experience.  True forgiveness and pardon of sins will never be experienced by one who is not truly repentant before God.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” – I John 1:9

The word “repentance” means a change of views and purpose, a change of heart, mind, attitude, and lifestyle.  It is the beginning of our transformation (Romans 12:2).  True repentance means that we turn away from our sins and natural, sinful desires.

John the Baptist preached repentance, Jesus proclaimed it, and the apostles emphasized it to both Jews and Gentiles (Acts 2:38, 11:18, 17:30).  Repentance is absolutely essential to salvation.

“Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish” – Luke 13:3
“And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem” – Luke 24:47
